Data Table
Source: EMARKETER ForecastJune 2024
Note: ages 14+; mobile phone users who make a peer-to-peer (P2P) payment transaction via mobile phone at least once per month
Additional Note: A mobile P2P payment is a transfer of funds from one individual to another individual using a mobile phone. It includes transactions made via mobile browsers or applications developed by nonbank providers like Cash App, Google Pay, Messenger, and Venmo, as well as transactions made via mobile banking websites and applications like Zelle that are developed by banks. Cross-border P2P transactions, person-to-business (P2B) transactions, B2B transactions, and B2C transactions are excluded. P2B payments are from people to businesses (e.g., customers paying a small business using Venmo) and are also known as peer-to-merchant payments. B2B payments are from businesses to other businesses (e.g., business or operational expenses). B2C payments are from businesses to consumers (e.g., payroll or supplemental benefits) and are also known as business-to-person payments.
Methodology: Estimates are based on the analysis of survey and web traffic data from research firms, primary research, interviews, information from major mobile payment players, historical consumer adoption and buying trends, payment adoption trends, retail spending trends, demographic and socioeconomic factors, and macro-economic conditions.
